“Day of Silence”


Please note: This article is a carbon-copy of an article we posted during the 2022 General Election. It seems that this “Day of Silence” is once again simply ignored, at least online.

Friday 7th June, a day before the election.

The supposed “day of reflection”, during which no political party can organise mass meetings, attend debates, or use political advertisement by law.

And yet, we still see social media barraged with these ads and billboards on the side of the roads declaring what a bright future it would be if you vote for someone.

While the extremely outdated General Election Act of 1991 does not include anything with regards to the internet and social media, it does cover itself with “printed matter or other means of communication to the public”, which in today’s life also includes social media and other online website advertisements.

And what will be done about them?

Absolutely nothing.
