You don’t want to vote. I get it. The two biggest parties have done nothing but lob insults and wave around facts that they’re better, in some way, than the other. Corruption, slander, money laundering – this stuff is tiring to listen to, especially after so many recent inquiries. You can’t really read a news article without it mentioning something related to how one party screwed over somebody or lined their pockets or didn’t release their finances. The independent parties are too small or have too drastic views on certain stuff. Or, maybe you just don’t care.
And why would you care about this stuff? It doesn’t affect you, and in a few weeks time things will return back to the way things were.
I get it. Why vote for these parties made up of a bunch of grown men hurling low insults? Why vote for children in suits that do nothing but think about lining their pockets? Why vote?
Go to the ballot to show them exactly how you feel. Do you feel disgusted, or angry, or apathetic? Go to the ballot.
If you find absolutely nobody that does not align with your values, if you dislike every candidate (difficult but not impossible) – then go to the ballot anyway. Instead of marking numbers, consider “protest voting”. Leave the sheet blank. Or, better yet, scribble something, a drawing or statement. Art is a powerful tool that does not require language to be understood. Create something on the voting sheet that sends a proper message to the candidates who have done nothing but make you feel dissatisfied, unseen, and unheard.
These votes are still considered important. They show that the people are tired of the same old politics, and that they’re fed up enough to go and nullify their vote, instead of apathetically staying at home. Do something worthwhile, and go vote.
